The Ulysses;HISCALE rate metadata files for VEPO have been updated to SPASE 1.3.1. The filename nomenclature, ResourceID and ParentID tags have been also been revised. The granule metadata files now have the structure UAV1DyyyydddGgg.xml to match the data files structure of UAV1DyyyydddGgg.CSV. Granule ResourceIDs now are
spase://VEPO/Granule/Ulysses/HISCALE/RAT/Ggg-1D/UAV1DyyyydddGgg
and reference the product-level metadata file through the ParentID
spase://VEPO/NumericalData/Ulysses/HISCALE/RAT/Ggg-1D
The product-level metadata files now have the filenames of Ggg-1D.xml.
These updated files are located in the usual place:
http://ulysses.ftecs.com/data/VEPO-XMLs/Ulysses/RAT/
UPDATE: The ACE/EPAM metadata now follow the same structure as the HISCALE metadata described above and is available at http://ulysses.ftecs.com/data/VEPO-XMLs/ACE/RAT/

The first stage of preparing the HISCALE MFSA flux data for the Virtual Energetic Particles Observatory (VEPO) is complete. The 17-min spin-averaged proton fluxes are available for download at
http://data.ftecs.com/VHO/VEPO/ulysses_hiscale/mfsa/17min/
The associated SPASE XML metadata file is viewable at
http://ulysses.ftecs.com/data/VEPO-XMLs/Ulysses/MFSA/
At the moment only spin-averaged proton data are available, but spin-averaged ion and electron data as well as sectored data for all species will be viewable from the same locations. Look for new files to begin appearing the week between Christmas and New Years.
In addition to the new MFSA data, a new product has been produced for the EPAM and HISCALE rate data. Previously, select ancillary data such as the magnetic field vector and ephemeris data for the spacecraft was included at the end of each data record for each product type. This results in a several-fold duplication of data. We’ve removed the ancillary data from the rate data products and created a new product which includes these data for the spacecraft as well as ephemeris data for Earth and Jupiter, and rotation operators for converting between the spacecraft cartesian coordinate system and either RTN or HEE coordinates.

Hopefully this will be the very last time (although probably not) that the Ulysses/HISCALE and ACE/EPAM XML-based metadata files need to be revised. We have our new VHO/VEPO web archive built and we’re beginning to populated it with datafiles. The latest version of the SPASE XML metadata for the EPAM and HISCALE rate data are at the standard locations
HISCALE: http://ulysses.ftecs.com/data/VEPO-XMLs/Ulysses/RAT/
ACE: http://ulysses.ftecs.com/data/VEPO-XMLs/ACE/RAT/
The metadata files for the HISCALE data formatted for the UDS are also available now at the above URL.

We believe that we finally have the proper format for the product-level xml descriptions. Our data files have been reorganized into a smaller number of more logically structured print-groups, and an XML metadata file has been created for each filetype at each of the four available cadences. You can download and view these files at http://ulysses.ftecs.com/data/VEPO-XMLs/Ulysses/RAT/.

Now that the Ulysses/HISCALE product-level xml files have been absorbed into the VHO (or in the process thereof), we’ve used them as a template for the ACE/EPAM product-level xml files for the particle data we have here at Fundamental Technologies. You can download and review these files at http://ulysses.ftecs.com/data/VEPO-XMLs/ACE/RAT/. If you have questions or concerns about our data archives, please feel free to drop me a line at patterson@ftecs.com.

In light of the developments at the recent workshop at UMBC, we’ve consolidated our original granular-level metadata files into more comprehensive product-level files. These XML files are SPASE 1.3.0 compliant (at the moment). We will continue to keep track of the ongoing development of the SPASE 1.3.0 schema and make changes to our XML files as needed. These new files can be found at http://ulysses.ftecs.com/data/VEPO-XMLs/Ulysses/RAT/.

With the new magnetic field data now available, I’ve reprocessed the HISCALE MFSA data so that pitch angles are now included with the flux data. The new data, including daily and hourly averaged, are available at http://ulysses.ftecs.com/data/ulysses_hiscale/. There are also new PHA data through the end of 2007 available as well. If you have any comments, concerns, or suggestions regarding the MFSA or PHA datasets, please let me know at patterson@ftecs.com.

A revised version of the XML metadata files for the Ulysses/HISCALE daily-averaged rate data are now available for review at http://ulysses.ftecs.com/data/VEPO-XMLs/Ulysses/RAT/Daily/. These files are SPASE v1.3.0 compliant according to the SPASE XML Validate Tool. If I understand the nomenclature correctly, these metadata files are descriptors at the granular level rather than at the product level.
UPDATE:
The hourly and 5-minute averaged metadata files are ready for review as well. All of these xml files can be found at http://ulysses.ftecs.com/data/VEPO-XMLs/Ulysses/RAT/

Fundamental Technologies has a repository of IMP-8 CPME data spanning the entire 33-year long mission. While these data are publicly available through our website, we’ve taken an additional step forward in making these data reachable by the scientific community. The Virtual Energetic Particle Observatory, VEPO, will in time incorporate SPASE-based metadata files for the IMP-8 CPME data we have. A first draft of these metadata files can be found here. We welcome any and all feedback regarding these metadata files.

The MFSA data from HISCALE for 2006 are ready. You can get the flat csv files from http://ulysses.ftecs.com/data/ulysses_hiscale/. The files will be uploaded to the main FunTech Data Archive soon. The color spectrographs for 2006 are available as well. You can download the smaller .png files for browsing, or the full resolution postscript files. http://ulysses.ftecs.com/images/hiscale/
